More sources are saying R2H available by end of month

Monday, September 18th, 2006

PC Advisor reports “Asus will begin selling its first ultra-mobile PC (UMPC), the R2H, worldwide by the end of this month, while Samsung is readying one that eschews Intel microprocessors in favour of Via chips.”

regarding specs, PC Advisor goes on to say “Although the suggested retail price of the R2H bound for the Taiwan market is TW$36,800 (about £600), it will come in different configurations users can choose from, so prices will be flexible. Asus will offer models with different sized hard drives, ranging from 20GB to 60GB in capacity. The standard edition will also come with just a two-cell battery, for about two hours of use before needing a recharge. Users will be able to select a four-cell battery as well, at an added cost.”

In other news, I need to call MobilePlanet to verify my pre-order from Friday because Friday evening I got an email saying that could not verify my order because my shipping address is different than my billing address for my credit card. So I went to the bank and changed that. I need to make sure my R2H will ship when it’s in.

ASUS R2H Pre-Sale and a Leap of Faith

Friday, September 15th, 2006

ASUS R2HI did it. I ordered my R2H.
I found the US sister site of expansys.com, mobileplanet.com They are having presales for 4 models of the R2H. Assuming the information I’d learned earlier this week was correct, I opted for the 40GB model. If the 60GB model is $999, I assume that the 40GB model will be less than that. So now I sit back and wait…

(I feel like a child waiting for Christmas morning!)

Oh aside from my glee, that puts the sites i’ve found doing presales of the R2H in the US up to two. Star Tech and MobilePlanet. And also means my week recap is a bit incorrect, I should have waited until later to post that :-X

ASUS R2H – The Week in Review

Friday, September 15th, 2006

Earlier This Week –We found out that www.mycom.nl was selling the R2H because ZhuBaJie over at OrigamiProject ordered one. His R2H doesn’t seem to have a camera, but he seems to be having quite a bit of fun with it. Steve over at CarryPad.com posted that the German release of the R2H would be September 27th, 2006. This prompted me to wonder if the US release was too far off.

Wednesday – I called ASUS Presales for USA and found out that the R2H is on its way, well at least that it should be available within the next few weeks, as well as what a “standard” model will have.

Yesterday – I went through the ASUS Resellers to find out if anyone was listing the R2H for presale and found only one site had the R2H listed. After a phone call, I didn’t manage to get any more info about this mysterious ASUS device.

Today – After reading on OrigamiProject that there are going to be several different models of the R2H being released I began to look around on a few European sites and found that Expansys happens to be listing 4 models of R2H for presale. The models range from 20GB hard drive to 60GB.

Who knows what the future holds for the ASUS R2H? But I know that if I can, I’d like to preorder one.

Coming Zune!

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

So Microsoft unveiled it’s iPod competitor today.  Per usual with a new Microsoft product, Sci-Fi Tech reports “there’s no precise launch date or price yet, although Microsoft does day(sic) it’ll be available ‘this holiday season.’”
According to Bloomberg, “The player offers a 30-gigabyte hard drive, comes in black, white and brown and allows users to wirelessly share music with nearby devices, the Redmond, Washington-based company said today in a statement.”

Sci-Fi Tech also reports “the Zune will feature built-in Wi-Fi, allowing users to wirelessly share songs and videos… theoretically. The press release says you’ll be able to share full-length “sample tracks” of “select” songs as well as homemade recordings and pictures. Sounds like there’ll be some pretty serious copy protection.”

MobilityToday has a video of the Zune on YouTube

Honestly I’ve got my iPod, i’m going to be purchasing a UMPC as soon as ASUS does a US launch. I don’t see this being a device for me… But it sure seems cool as hell!
