Google == Beanie Babies?

Google closing price for today was $385.95

fadn : an interest followed with exaggerated zeal;

A few years back Beanie Babies were all the rage. A complete fad, one day the coolest item on the market. The next day, they were yesterday’s news. Now it’s something that i’ve thought of considering Google stock. The stock price has jumped from $161.31 to $386.58 in the past year, and jumped from $290.69 to $386.58 in just the past month! While those numbers are averages, i can’t help but wonder if Google is the “next cool thing” At the rate which Google stock is rising I’d bet on it hitting the $400 mark by next Tuesday or Wednesday, and some people even say tomorrow. My big question is weather or not Google will split anytime soon?

Companies often split their stock when they believe the price of their stock exceeds the amount smaller individual investors would be willing to pay for the stock. By reducing the price of the stock, companies try to make their stock more affordable to these investors.

Taken from http://www.sec.gov/answers/stocksplit.htm

Most small time investors, or shall we say “normal people” aren’t making the type of money that they can toss a spare $400 into a tech stock. I’m an IS major and even I was leary at taking the leap into Google. In my opinion, Google stock would only go up should it split. But if it doesn’t every day i watch it rise i will cross my fingers and say to myself “Is Google 3/4 of the way to $400 or half way to $800?”

I know Microsoft has just released Visual Studio 2005 and Windows Vista is well in the works and will be out sometime in 2006. Google is competing with Microsoft, so I can only watch and wait for Google’s next trick they will pull out of their sleeve.

Until that trick lands on the table, i’ll cross my fingers and watch the ticker.

Formal Cancellation of Grand Valley Programming Competition

I’m sorry to be sending this notification out to everyone, but as of 11pm EST the Grand Valley Intercollegiate .NET Programming Competition is cancelled. The event which had been planned for October 22nd, 2005 is being cancelled for general lack of student interest. We will try to reschedule the event for the second semester around early March. For everyone who showed interest and support in this project, Mike and I thank you.

The SA, or To Redmond and Back Again

So it’s been a while since I’ve written anything. Last weekend was the Student Ambassador Summit. Mike and I flew out a day early and stayed with GV alum Eric Maino and his wife for the night. I’m very grateful for friends who would do something like that for me. Then, Friday and Saturday, we were lucky enough to be flown out and put up in a hotel by Microsoft for the weekend. The event was awesome; the weekend was an all around great experience. It gave me a sense of accomplishment to be able to be in a room networking with people with similar interests as myself for an entire day. I had a great time getting to hang out with people like Josh Holmes, Martin Shoemaker, Donny Mack, and of course the ever crazy David Smith. Being in the company of those people just gets your mind going. If my laptop had a reliable battery I would have been blogging it nonstop. Actually I’m looking into getting a tablet PC, so if anyone has one for sale let me know the price and I will consider it.

Back to the academic process; this week has been crazy. I’ve been doing nothing but homework and planning of events. Finally we’ve got the sign up page up for the .NET programming competition. I’m currently running on about 6 and a half hours of sleep for the past two days because the CS 163 project 1 was due today. The past two nights (mornings) I didn’t leave the lab until about 2am each night. The project made me reevaluate the way I divide my time, and think about how much time I should (or shouldn’t) be spending on other thing. I can happily say I finished it. I’m currently trying to think of what to request for prizes for the programming competition, I hope to have that request out by this evening.

Also I just signed up for the Visual Studio 2005 launch in Detroit. It will be nice to go back to that side of the state for a day. I can’t wait for November 8th.

Well that’s it for now I suppose, I’m off to get some sleep.
