Where have the days gone?

So it’s been about a week since my last post.  Normally I would assume not much has gone by.  Well I’d usually say that because school has started up again so I’ve got to get back into the grind of it.  However despite having a full schedule of such fun classes as Accounting, and Writing in The Workplace, as well as a few others I have managed to work on a few extracurricular activites.

Last week I wrote a form application in C# that will simultaneously search all the US cities listed on the Craigslist frontpage for a given search term and criteria.  That’s proved to be quite a useful application.  I spent this past weekend doing a bit of freelance wordpress web design thanks to a few Craigslist posting I came across.  I think maybe I should brush up the resume to reflect the wordpress stuff I’ve been getting myself into?

Feeds on Facebook

Ok, so i’ve realized that i’m thoroughly upset with the addition of the mini-feed to the facebook layout.  Aside from the fact that it takes up a spot right near the center of the page, I don’t want it there.  I don’t want it period!  I never asked for this capability.

I make that comment because most news someone consumes on a feed is consumed because it is interesting or worth their time to look at.  While I do have a facebook account, and check it regularly, I don’t necessarily want the up to the minute details of my friend’s lives.

To be honest maybe I wouldn’t be so against this tool if it wasn’t right in the middle of the screen and maybe off to the side.  But for now, it makes me cringe.  Hopefully this foul taste which Facebook as just put in my mouth will go away, or maybe a great college networking site will be tarnished forever?

Blogging Via Local Machine For Testing Purposes…

Ok, I just spent maybe um… the past 7 and a half hours (give or take two for food) trying to install php, apache, mySQL, and PHPmyAdmin on my computer. Oh all so I could just test WordPress themes on my local machine.I ended up using apache2triad which works…..well after I thought i’d broken the install a few times, found out it has a backwards way of running Apache on a Windows machine. For example the files are run at http://localhost/apache2triadcp/ Which on my local machine is at C:\apache2triad\htdocs\apache2triadcp
Well anyways, i’ve finally got it working. Well at least a dummy blog to test theme content on. Wow, this was way too stressful, but hopefully now I can make a few pretty unique themes.
Hopefully i’ll have a theme redesign in the near future.
Cheers!

Direct Correlation Between An Incline in Study Time and a Decrease in Time Spent Making Money

Yeah, I said it. School’s started now, and as a result, I’m forced to work less hours putting forth fewer hours into both of my jobs. Eh. I need my education, but being successful is that damn desire which I possess possibly too much of. There is no proper balance between time spent between educational and commercial success. If you want good grades, study. If you want money, work. If I desire (and dammit i do) both a job which can send a decent amount of money my way and a degree, well I need to make the trade off. About two years left at Grand Valley, this year, and one more if I’m lucky.

My classes this semester to seem quite manageable; my GPA would appreciate a boost, which would mean I need to stay focused and spend ample time studying.
